We booked our airline tickets for New Zealand! We'll be down under for about a month beginning in mid-March and will spend time on both the North and South Islands.
While on the South Island, we plan to rent a car or campervan and do as much sightseeing as Emily will allow.
Later we will be joined by my parents and will show them the sights of the North Island and then spend time at Mary and Barry's farm.
We'll end our trip with Barry's 70th birthday celebration!

Lunch outing at the Grand Buffet! It was great to see: Tara, Leif and Finn; Beth, Giles and Charlotte; Patrick, Melanie, Ryan and April; George, Stacy and Elijah.

At Emily's 2-month checkup she weighed 10 pounds, 13 ounces and was 23.25 inches in length. While being given her vaccinations she cried like an animal being led to the slaughter but soon forgot about the whole ordeal.
Jan. 19 - 21
We accepted an invitation to stay with the Barlows at their luxurious Lake Tahoe cabin for the weekend. Their 6-year old daughter, Phoebe, enjoyed meeting Emily and quickly learned how to make her smile!
On Saturday we skied with them at Homewood, the local ski resort, where we were joined by their friends who also own a Tahoe cabin. On Sunday morning we had a great breakfast at the very popular Fire Sign Cafe and then headed to Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. While Richard enjoyed an afternoon of skiing, Emily and I took a walk on the snowy trails and then hung out at Alpine's very comfy lodge. More Photos

We had a great time visiting with Auntie Jen who all the way from Virginia to see Emily. On Sunday we spent the day in San Francisco and saw the shops at the new San Francisco Centre. At Bloomingdales, Jen bought Emily her first new pair of shoes! After shopping, we visited Chinatown, the sea lions at Pier 39 and Ocean Beach. More Photos
On Monday we had lunch at a Garre Winery and took a tour of Wente Winery, both in Livermore. That night Jen babysat while Mom and Dad celebrated their 3rd anniversary with dinner and a movie.

At my mom's group, Emily and I visited with 8-week old Abigail, 4-month old Charlotte and their moms. Both babies and their familes traveled by plane for the first time over the holidays. I was happy to hear that everything went well for them because Emily and I will by flying to Virginia in February.
Jan. 6
It's been one week and Emily is still sleeping 5 - 6 hours each night. We think it's because we swaddle her in a blanket before we put her to sleep. The tight wrap looks uncomfortable but she likes it. She falls asleep fast and she stays asleep because she can't wave her arms and wake herself up.
Jan. 5
We got Emily's passport photos taken at Walmart and then submitted the photos and application at the Pleasanton Post Office. The passport will take 6-8 weeks to arrive.
Jan. 4
Picked up Emily's birth certificate from the county office of records in Martinez. Next we can apply for her passport.
Jan. 2
We finished our weekend away with a day at Yosemite, spending the morning in the valley and the afternoon at Badger Pass, Yosemite's own ski resort. The small resort, geared toward beginners, was not challenging for us but it offered spectacular views!
Jan. 1
Happy New Year! We celebrated the new year at Bear Valley where we took turns skiing with Eduardo and Kris. All but one run were on "wind hold" for most of the morning but several more were running by lunchtime. More Photos

We drove to Gold Rush country on New Year's Eve and visited the Ironstone Winery in Murphy's. In addition to the tasting room, the winery also features a museum containing gold mining artifacts from the 19th century including a 44 pound crystalline gold leaf specimen which the winery claims is the largest in the world.
A 44 lb. piece of gold. Richard can be seen in the background.
