Crawling, climbing and standing
In August Emily mastered crawling and climbing and has been on the go ever since. She has traveled to all corners of the apartment and even ventured outside a few times. Of course we follow her out the door to see where she decides to go! Because she now likes to visit the kitchen regularly we've put up a gate to keep her out. Naturally she doesn't like that!
Shortly after she learned to crawl she figured out how to pull herself up to standing. Her favorite spot to stand is at the corner of the coffee table and by the end of the month she started taking small, wobbly steps across the length of the table. Sometimes she is brave enough to let go with one hand.
Camping and more
We've been keeping busy this summer going to BBQs, swimming and visiting with our friends. We've also been camping twice. Emily enjoys exploring the outdoors and loves getting her hands dirty. She finds grass, sticks, tree bark, sand and stones especially fascinating.
Grown up food only please
Emily recently decided she's had enough of baby food and now prefers to feed herself whatever we're eating. If I try to feed her babyfood on a spoon she usually pushes my hand away after a few mouthfuls. She's much happier if we put small pieces of food on her tray and we find that most of it actually reaches her mouth. It's messy but she's learning! Some of her favorite foods are peaches, pears, pasta, Cheerios, broccoli, zucchini and tofu.
While she doesn't like to find babyfood on her spoon anymore she will happily eat ice cream off a spoon when offered. It's a treat that she doesn't get very often but when she does, she LOVES it.
